Daniel Kagan – State Senator
I was born and raised in England, the son of Lithuanian Jews who met in a Nazi concentration camp, escaped and went into hiding after three years of slave labor, and then came to England as refugees. It was my parents’ stories of how quickly and completely civilization can break down that kindled my lifelong interest in politics. I immigrated to the U.S. in the 1970’s, became a citizen in the 80’s, and took office in the Colorado House of Representatives in 2009.
Before joining the legislature, I did blue-collar jobs (loading freight onto trucks and waiting tables) and, later, professional work under civilian contract to the U.S. Naval Academy as a flight instructor, then lawyer, then businessman. I chair the House Judiciary Committee, and am a member of the House Finance Committee. This is my last House term, having served for eight years, and I’m now running for election in November to the Colorado State Senate.
